Since losing 40 pounds and 4 pant sizes, I’ve been a big proponent of strength training.  Here’s an article by fitness model Kim Dolan Leto about combining cardio and strength training to turn your body into a lean, mean fat burning machine.  Enjoy!

Turn Yourself Into a Fat Burning Machine

Come rain or shine commit to 1 hour a day 5 days a week split between weight training and cardio. This can be done at home or in a gym pop in a DVD, or sign up for a fun group exercise class.
  • Increase your lean muscle mass, if there is a secret, this is it!
  • Rev up your cardio 2 or 3 times a week with high intensity interval training.
  • Eat protein with every meal.
  • Veggies, Veggies, and more Veggies-oh so good for you!
  • Make your last meal a large salad with lean protein measure dressing or opt for your favorite vinegar and lemon slices.
  • Measure portions; know how much you’re eating.
  • Join a bootcamp with a girlfriend.
  • Write it all down, what you eat, weigh, body fat, and how you train.
  • Get rid of high fat, high sodium, empty calorie condiments and drinks and find healthy alternatives.
  • Reward yourself once a week with something other than food.
  • Sleep 8 hours a night.

In my experience, gaining muscle is the key to losing fat-like I mentioned before if there’s a secret this seems to be it. When I do cardio, I always think about the fresh blood that’s being pumped through my body and all the toxins being removed at a faster rate. I believe this does wonders for our immune systems, aging, and of course fat loss. Our bodies are like machines, so the fuel they run on is of great importance. Combining clean nutrition with cardio 5 days a week, and a dynamic weight training program will turn you into a fat burning yummy mummy!
