Stay Healthy (and sane!) during COVID-19

How are you doing in the midst of all this corona virus madness?! (which Black Twitter has affectionately coined #DatRona 😂)

Being quarantined and maintaining social distance means gym closures and extra idle time for snacking and xtra calories.  But let’s look at the bright side.  Most of us are working remotely now  which means we can use our commute time for our workouts.  Yeah!!! 👏 👏

Although most of this is out of our control, there are a few things you CAN do over the next 14 days to stay healthy (and sane!) during COVID-19.

Limit Your Carbs

To avoid weight gain, limit your carb intake, especially on the days you don’t workout.  Carbs metabolize into glycogen (sugar) that is used for energy.  Carbs that aren’t burned for fuel are stored as fat, leading to weight gain and cellulite if you don’t burn it off!  Aim for 1 cup of carbs at each meal so your body is getting only enough to fuel your workouts.  For a complete list of the best whole, unprocessed carbs, read my blog post:  Macronutrients Simplified

Exercise to Stay Sane!

The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week (or 30 minutes a day).  At a minimum, make sure you’re doing that.  Exercise clears your mind and reduces stress.  It also triggers the release of feel good endorphins that amp up your mood!

There’s 7 days in a week.  My moto is to workout at least 4 of them.  That way you’re exercising more days than you’re resting – and burning those extra calories.
